The EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD); calls for the achievement or maintenance of Good Environmental Status (GES) in the marine environment by the year 2020 through the development and implementation of marine strategies. The Directive outlines a plan of action which Member States should apply in developing marine strategies and stipulates the need for regional cooperation throughout the whole implementation process. The need for regional cooperation is also set by the need to determine GES at the level of marine region or sub region, and the need for management measures to be defined in respect of each marine region or sub region.
MEUSAC, in collaboration with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), organised a consultation session on the monitoring programme pursuant to EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EC. This consultation session gathered insights and contributions from relevant stakeholders on the monitoring programme, and it provided them with the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions on the matter. The session was held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at MEUSAC Offices in Valletta.
