The purpose of Structural Funds is to promote the overall harmonious development of the Community and to reduce disparities between the levels of development of the various regions. The European Union provides structural funds for supporting social and economic restructuring across the Union. They account for over a third of the European Union budget.
In this respect Structural Funds amounting to Euro 86,521,137 have been allocated on the basis of priorities agreed to by Malta and the European Commission. The priorities which are set out in the Single Programming Document for Malta, are divided into measures which target individual areas such as environment, roads, tourism, human resources, rural development and fisheries and Gozo special needs.
The objectives, eligible actions, EU and Malta co-financing rate, total available budget for each measure are outlined in detail in the Programme Complement to the Single Programming Document for Malta. The eligibility and selection criteria on which projects will be assessed and ranked are also provided.
