Organised by the Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit in collaboration with Forum Malta fl-Ewropa.
Europeans were recently invited to discuss the kind of Europe that they want in what is considered to be the biggest ever pan-European debate on the future of Europe, focusing mainly on energy and the environment, family and social welfare as well as immigration and Europe’s global role.
These themes were identified by 200 EU citizens during a meeting held in Brussels last October trying to achieve a European Citizens’ Agenda. The results of their deliberations were handed to the organisers of national debates in all Member States to form the basis of the discussions which took place across the EU in Malta on 24 and 25 March, concurrently with Belgium, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia, Hungary and Cyprus.
In early May the results of all debates will be presented to policy-makers ahead of June’s EU Summit about the future of the Constitutional Treaty, particularly following the No votes to the Constitutional Treaty in France and the Netherlands.
The project, which was being coordinated in Malta by the Fondazzjoni Temi Żammit in collaboration with Forum Malta fl-Ewropa, is part-funded by the European Commission’s Communication Strategy Plan D.
