Dr Gabriella Pace was invited to address a seminar for business organisations and co-operatives, organised at Malta Enterprise by the Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and the Self Employed, the Hon. Edwin Vassallo. The aim of this meeting was to give information about how these organisations and co-operatives can apply for European Union funding. Participation of more self-employed in European Union-funded programmes is one of the initiatives of the Parliamentary Secretary's 2006
In her presentation, Dr Pace outlined the EU's funding opportunities and explained the new funding scheme for the current budgetary period (2007-2013). Tew funding scheme consists of five Budgetary Headings representing the EU’s main objectives namely: (a) The EU as a global partner; (b) Cohesion for Growth and Employment; (c) Preservation and Management of Natural Resources; (d) Citizens, Freedom, Security and Justice; and (e) Competitiveness for Growth and Employment. Dr Pace also provided some insight into the new Competitiveness & Innovation Programme (CIP) which takes its point of departure from the objectives of the Lisbon process and groups all Community actions in the field of innovation and competitiveness for the period 2007-2013.
The well-attended session generated a lot of interest and an interesting and interactive discussion with participants then ensued.
