Mobility

Proposals submitted under this heading must relate to transnational projects for people in training, especially young people undergoing training or trying to enter the labour market, young workers, trainers and other staff responsible for the training of other employees or members in their organisations. The main aim is to strengthen the European dimension of initial and continuing vocational training, as well as to encourage people to gain experience in activities involving theory and practice, particularly work-linked training.

This type of measure is also useful in consolidating transnational co-operation in a broad sense, bringing in all actors on the vocational training scene.

The implementation takes the form of projects organizing mobility activities under the headings of one of the below mentioned themes:

  • Trainees in initial vocational training (IVT)
  • People in the labour market, including recent graduates (PLM)
  • Further professional development for persons responsible for vocational education and training on a professional level (VETPRO)

All applications submitted under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme have to be submitted by an organisation (public/private/NGOs/non-profit organisations). Applications submitted by individuals without any backing from any organisations will be considered ineligible.  Prior to submitting a proposal, one needs to establish a partnership with an organisation/s from another participating country where beneficiaries will be undertaking their placements. The minimum required partnership size for LdV Mobility projects is two (one applicant and one hosting organisation). There are no minimum or maximum numbers of beneficiaries. However it is important to justify the number of beneficiaries proposed in terms of project rationale and management feasibility.

The duration of the whole project (as opposed to the placement or exchange) must not exceed 24 months. This can encompass time spent on the preparation of beneficiaries, the actual placement and follow-up activity, e.g. evaluation.

With regards to the actual duration of placements, one should note that placements under IVT and PLM can last between 2 weeks to 36 weeks, whereas projects submitted under VETPRO cannot last longer than 6 weeks.

For all types of mobility, support will be provided for projects ensuring the quality of mobility. Projects must, where appropriate, address the following elements:

  • Linguistic and cultural preparation;
  • Objectives, content and duration of the stay abroad;
  • Pedagogical organisation, tutoring and mentoring;
  • Validation of the skills acquired.

In addition, all individuals benefitting from a period of mobility within the programme will, on request and where applicable, will be awarded a “Europass Mobility” document. Europass Mobility essentially provides a detailed record of the skills and competences acquired by an individual - of whatever age, educational level and occupational status - during a European mobility experience for learning purposes in another European country.
