Nadur Local Council managed to win a grant from the European Parliament for the support of initiatives marking the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome throughout the 27 Member States. In cooperation with the Valletta Office of the European Parliament, the Council organized an event, entitled “FLIMKIEN”, in the central square and surrounding areas of its town during the weekend of the 25th March 2007.
From Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, information stands, art and photo exhibitions, street theatre, folk music, debates on Europe, shows for children, local products market and a full entertainment programme were presented to the Maltese and Gozitan public.
Amongst the more than 30 artists who performed, two very special guests made an appearance on Saturday and Sunday evening: Matia Bazar performed live on Saturday 24th of March and Riccardo Fogli performed live on Sunday 25th of March. The financial grant secured by the Council covered 70% of the costs of these activities.
Entrance to all activities and venues was free of charge and facilities, including local transport and special discounted fares for the ferry, were made available.
