Awareness Raising on the NATURA 2000 Network among Hunters

Natura_2000_hunters.gifThis project gathers the various points of view and experiences of different NATURA 2000 users and stakeholders, in order to identify common interests and discuss possible disagreements. It also aims to enhance their participation in the management of the sites.

Its realisation is one of the concrete outcomes of the Sustainable Hunting Initiative (SHI), launched in 2001 by the European Commission, and of the FACE - BirdLife International Agreement signed in 2004 in the presence of the former Commissioner for Environment Margot Wallström.

The elements the project uses to reach these objectives are:

  • A network of 25 National correspondents. Trained during the project, they will be responsible for continuing the project and communicating its message in their home country.
  • Five Workshops, which gather the national correspondents for training sessions and exchange of opinions. These occur in different biogeographic regions, as outlined by the Habitats Directive. Each workshop is organised around a site visit, which promotes positive examples of NATURA 2000 sites management and compatibility with sustainable hunting.
  • A wide communication effort: throughout the project cycle, specific communication tools will be developed to enable the national correspondents communicate their message effectively

The European Union finances 90% of this project run by the Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the E.U (FACE)in partnership with the European Landowners Organization (ELO) and with the participation of BirdLife International.
