As part of its ongoing project to improve the internal market for financial services, the European Commission has recently published a Green Paper on further opening up the European retail financial services to more cross-border competition. The European Commission Green Paper has highlighted retail services such as current accounts, payments, personal loans, mortgages, savings, pensions, investments and insurance products amongst others.
It is in this context that Forum Malta fl-Ewropa and the Institute of Financial Services-Malta have teamed up for the organization of a Business Breakfast Workshop entitled on the theme ‘Retail Financial Services
Participants were addressed by Tim Grange (Manager - EU/International team, Retail Policy Division), from the UK’s Financial Services Authority who provided some insight into the contents of the Green Paper and its possible implications, as well as by Geoffrey Bezzina (Head, Consumer Complaints Unit) of from the Malta Financial Services Authority who will be tackling the theme ‘Consumers & Retailers: do their priorities meet?’. The Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, delivered an opening address. There was ample time for questions and a good discussion ensued.
