Inclusive ICT Training & Development Programme at Razzett tal-Ħbiberija

RTH logo.bmpThis project is specifically targeting persons with physical disabilities who are either operating a computer uncomfortably or are finding difficulty in operating one.  It is funded under the ESF 2004 – 2006 Programme, under Measure 2.3: Lifelong Learning and Social Inclusion.

The main aim of the project is to enable persons with even severe disabilities to become increasingly independent and making independent living easier and simpler. For thisreason an ICT lab has been set up at the premises of Razzett tal-Ħbiberija, with assistive technology, such as keyboards with larger controls, mouth operated controls and appropriate software (supporting voice commands, larger fonts etc) Through this project an attempt is being made at putting at level the playing field for access to employment, education and social integration when these aspects are IT-dependent.

This project will enable persons with physical disability to benefit from information technology for the first time since it is not possible for them to use the traditional computer hardware or software set up. The users benefiting from this project are being provided with adaptive equipment. They are also provided with alternative methods for Razzett2.JPGaccessing computers and with the necessary training for using the available technology. Such equipment includes a variety of adapted hardware and software which allow people with different kinds of disabilities to make use of  the computer.

The participants are receiving the necessary training in using the assistive technology provided to them. Thus they gain the required skills to master both the hardware and software which gives them access to ICT. They will also gain the empowering skills to eventually train other physically disabled persons in using assistive technology.

A budget of €42,000 was provided for this project, €31,500 were financed under the European Social Fund programme and 25% were co-financed by Razzett tal-Ħbiberija.
