The ARCHIMED Programme of the Community Initiative INTERREG III B for the programming period 2000-2006, focuses on the improvement of the spatial planning integration of the South-eastern Mediterranean area. The Aim of the Programme is the “Improvement of the integration of the area of the North-eastern Mediterranean” and is been analysed in three (3) distinctive Strategic Objectives:

• Spatial planning at the international level in order to promote polycentric and sustainable development
• Improvement of access to the European transport and energy networks and to the information society
• Promotion, improvement and maintenance of natural, cultural and environmental heritage

The eligible areas are the following: 

• GREECE, Cyprus, Malta and the following five (5) regions of South Italy (Sicilia, Calabria, Basilicata, Puglia, Campania)
