The Foundation for Educational Services implemented a project aimed at providing the necessary capacity building processes for training practitioners who would work within community based lifelong learning centres. Trainers were provided with the necessary training to run the courses within the centres.
The project involved the setting up of community based initiatives targeting persons who are most at risk of social exclusion and providing them with learning opportunities. For this purpose a number of Lifelong Learning Centre organisers were engaged and trained. The learning centres were set up in different localities on the island with the aim of providing short courses free of charge to adult-learners. Such courses included ICT, basic Maltese, public speaking, and subjects related to personal development and civic competencies.
7 centres were launched in different localities apart from 7 courses which were organised centrally. In total 214 courses were organised and 2,038 participants attended these courses. 62 trainers were trained to run the courses. The project cost was that of €219,197, 75% (€161,307) of which were financed from EU funds under the European Social Fund Programme.
