The Local Councils Association organized its annual plenary session for all Mayors and councillors in Malta and Gozo.  During the meeting the President of the Association, Mr Michael Cohen presented a report that highlighted the main activities for the past year.  He re-iterated the position of the Association that it will continue to work in the interest of all Local Councils and shall uphold the basic principles of local democracy and local government.  He stated that the Association was building strong relations with foreign partners in order to undertake joint initiatives, including training.

The meeting was also addressed by Osvalido Zammit, Funding Coordinator at Forum Malta fl-Ewropa, who explained in detail the various EU funding streams that are available for Local Councils.  He also provided examples of successful projects that have been implemented by Local Councils in Malta and Gozo.  The Local Councils Association is putting EU funding as one of its main priorities.

The plenary meeting was addressed by the Hon. Dr Chris Cardona, MLP Main Spokesperson on Local Councils and by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Home Affairs Dr. Tonio Borg.  In both cases the speakers amplified on their party's political vision for Local Councils.
