On 9 March 2007, the Commission unveiled a consolidated text of the modernized Television without Frontiers Directive. The new rules are a response to technological developments and create a new level-playing field in Europe for emerging audiovisual media services (video on demand, mobile TV, audiovisual services on digital TV). Players in the sector will be given more flexibility to produce digital content which they can then make freely available to consumers through advertising.
In view of the importance of these developments, on 20 November 2007 Forum Malta fl-Ewropa, in collaboration with TAIEX and the MEDIA Desk within the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, organised a Conference for stakeholders entitled The New Media Landscape: Audiovisual Media Services Without Frontiers.
This Seminar was of particular interest to Broadcasters, Production houses, Media companies, Advertising and marketing agencies, Operators in the ICT Sector, Gaming Companies, University Students reading Communications, National authorities and agencies with an interest in related issues (eg Malta Communications Authority, Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Malta Broadcasting Authority etc), Members of the legal profession with an interest in Media Law and Government officials with an interest in media issues.
