Raymond Calleja decided to invest in a modern rabbit farm. In order to invest in this project he needed a large amount of capital, thus he submitted an application under the measure Investment in Agricultural Holdings. This measure allowed for a maximum grant of Lm50,000/€ 116,468 and has a 50 % co-financing requirement.
Mr Calleja’s project included rabbit hutches and the equipment needed to collect the manure automatically. He also applied for a ventilation and air conditioning system to improve the animals’ welfare. Since Mr Calleja was still setting up his business, he included the cost of the breeding stock.
This project included the construction of an underground water reservoir together with the necessary water catchments to collect and store rain water. This farm is surrounded with trees to enhance the environment.
Once his project was selected and the contract signed, Mr Calleja started the project. This project is now finalised and the applicant received 50% of the total project cost. He managed to position his product on the market successfully and intends to continue investing in his business in order to expand his activity further in the near future.
