Europe for Citizens Programme 2007-2013

The Europe for Citizens programme has a number of key priorities geared at fulfilling its mission to give the citizen an active role in the development of the European Union. The Programme’s main priorities include encouraging citizens to become actively involved in the process of European integration, empowering them to develop a sense of European identity, and enhancing mutual understanding between Europeans.

In more concrete terms, the Programme’s priority areas are: the promotion of participation and democracy at EU level; the future of the Union and its basic values; intercultural dialogue; employment, social cohesion and sustainable development; and boosting awareness of the societal impact of EU policies. This Programme is based on 4 main action lines. Action 1, to which 45% of the programme’s budget is allocated, targets town-twinning initiatives and citizens’ projects.

In this context, MEUSAC organised a half-day seminar on the Europe for Citizens Programme, specifically for the benefit of Local Councils and NGOs / associations. This event was held at The Victoria Hotel on 29 October 2008. The main speaker was Natasha Jovicic from the Citizenship Unit P7, at the Education Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
