Save Darfur was a seminar organised through European Union funding obtained through the Youth in Action programme. The theme of this seminar was one that had long been discussed by the organisation, which also won the prize for the best project back in 2003.
Themes discussed in previous seminars organised by the Youth Programme were the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis titled ‘A Conflict, A Solution Bridging the gap’ as networking between youth organisations and ‘Illegal Odyssey’ about immigration. All of these themes were of huge importance to continue building for discussing themes that directly and indirectly affect our country.
The participants of this seminar hailed from Italy, Poland, Turkey, Hungary and Malta. The budget for this activity was that of 20,000 euros. The participants were representing various organisations with various interests such as local councils and youth organisations involved at local and national level. The participants were addressed by various experts in their field such as Ranier Fsadni, Andre’ Callus from Moviment Graffitti, Her Excellency Molly Bordanaro and Carmen Sammut from the University of Maltas International Relations department.
As the funds were approved we aimed as having a seminar comprising quality as a benefit for all the participants where they gained from the experiences provided by speakers, through activities where the participants knew each other informally or workshops and even through treasure hunt and visits in different locations such as Imdina.
The seminar discussed what happened and why this conflict took place, the role of international players and climate change as a factor of how citizens lives are going to be affected in Darfur region especially. Pulse is going to work on disseminating information to members within the organisation, as well as with youths especially those attending university and those that do not attending any educational establishment.
