Zooming On Sustainability

The Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee organized a three day European conference entitled “Zooming on Sustainability”. It was held on 13th, 14th and 15th May 2009 at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St Julians. A number of Maltese Local Councils + their twinned foreign partners were invited to this event.

 

This conference gathered over 150 participants from 7 different countries which spaned from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Spain and Malta, to exchange ideas research and best practices on key issues in the area of sustainability.

 

This three day event included a wide array of practical topics and networking opportunities. The conference also included discussion working groups which were three-fold and focused on sustainable development and the promotion of active citizenship with particular reference to environment, culture and social matters. 

 

The objectives of this conference were to discuss the role of the targeted beneficiaries in the improvement of the quality of life of their residents and their contribution to sustainable development. Moreover, it aimed to create a network at European level to support the participating audience in working more effectively and with a wider European dimension. In line with the Europe for Citizens Programme, the project aimed at discussing thematic sectors that promote citizen’s engagement with major EU social issues.
